Garowe, 17-Feb-2026 Gaashaan Legal and Consultancy Services in partnership with the NRC – Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) and the Garowe Local Government successfully conducted Community Engagement legal awareness session with over 30 participants from jawle IDP camps Garowe.
The session brought together traditional elders, IDPs leaders, women representatives, youth, and IDP camp committees’ member to strengthen dialogue and community participation on Housing, Land, and Property (HLP) rights
The key objectives of the meeting were to:
• Facilitate structured discussions on HLP rights and broader human rights concerns.
• Encourage community leaders to integrate human rights perspectives into dispute resolution and support peaceful conflict management.
• Build trust between justice actors and IDP communities through open platforms that address community grievances and legal concerns.
Participants gained valuable knowledge and a deeper understanding of their legal rights. In addition, Gaashaan Legal’s lawyers provided an opportunity for participants to register their legal concerns, resulting in more than 5 cases being formally registered for legal advice and representation.
This initiative is part of Gaashaan Legal’s ongoing legal aid outreach project, funded by EHCO trough NRC, which seeks to promote justice, inclusion, and peaceful coexistence in displacement-affected communities.
